Sophisticated, Smooth Design
The Rookie was designed to look and feel as smooth and natural as possible, as this is one of the most important aims of any Tangram Factory product.
The sleek design of the handles is pleasing to both see and touch, as the handle fits well into the hand. The finishing of the handle not only brings out the colors, but also make the handle of the Rookie feel good and rough enough that they do not easily slip.
Inside, the Rookie has been designed to be as straightforward and simple as possible, to reduce any possibility of defects and make it easier for users to change batteries.
Magnetic sensors in the handles, connected to the ballbearings track every rotation quickly and accurately, able to detect five full rotations in less than a second.

Jumping Rope as an Exercise
Jumping rope is one of the best workouts out there in regards to burning calories, surpassing almost any other kinds of workout.
For example, a simple non-intensive 15-minute jump rope workout burns as much calories as a 30-minute jog, that is almost 400 calories! But not only does it burn more calories, it is actually causes less strain on your legs and body than jogging, reducing the chance of injury.
Jumping rope does more than just improve your leg and arm muscles, it is a full body workout that works out all body parts and helps your body stand up straight!
Apart from burning calories, jumping rope has also been proven to help increase coordination, endurance, and balance!
Components

SmartRope Rookie – Every set of SmartRope Rookie contains a left handle and a right handle. The left handle has the ‘Rookie’ logo printed on it vertically; the right handle does not feature any kind of logo. The new product includes a battery in the right hand grip. You can store extra batteries in the right handle when not in use for a long time.
Rope – Each SmartRope Rookie comes with a 3 meter long rope and two rope holders. Attach the rope to the handles by inserting the rope through a rope holder and then inserting it through the upper hole at the end of the handle and then pulling it through the lower hole and attach it to the remaining hole of the rope holder. Do the same for the other handle. For images and more detailed instructions, please see the user manual.
Coin Battery – The Smart Rope Rookie makes use of coin batteries. Each Smart Rope Rookie comes with a coin battery, which is housed in the right handle (the handle without a logo). A single coin battery will last you about 6 months when used for only 30 minutes of daily workouts. However, the battery can last much longer than that, when exercising less, or storing the battery in the right handle when not in use.
Pouch – SmartRope Includes a dedicated fabric pouch for carrying or storing rookies. (There may be differences in material and color depending on when the product is purchased.)
Smart Fitness Tracking: The Tangram Smart Rope Rookie connects to the SmartRope mobile app via Bluetooth, allowing you to track your jumps, calories burned, and workout progress in real-time.
Adjustable Length for All Users: Easily adjustable rope length to fit all heights and workout styles, making it perfect for adults and kids alike. Simply customize the length to suit your needs for a comfortable and efficient workout.
Durable and Lightweight Design: Made with high-quality materials, the Smart Rope Rookie is both durable and lightweight, ensuring smooth and fast rotations. The ergonomic handles provide a comfortable grip for extended workout sessions.
App-Connected for Enhanced Workouts: Sync with the SmartRope app to access a range of workout modes, track your fitness data, and compete with friends. Available for both iOS and Android, the app offers a comprehensive fitness experience.

Feels like a regular rope, collecting data is fun
Before purchasing the Rookie model from Tangram, I tried to find some detailed reviews on the web, including YouTube. Perhaps because this is a newer model, there were none. There were however, a lot of reviews available on the original Tangram rope which retails close to $90 and features a fancy LED feature in the rope to beam your skip count out in front of you. The reviews I read on this model mentioned concerns about the weight and hesitation to use it outside because of the electronics in the rope. This “Rookie” model features none of that fancy stuff so the rope is just as light as a standard jump rope. All the electronics are in the left handle and you won’t even notice it.Setup was pretty easy, but I did need to read the manual to figure out how to get going. The right handle features battery storage and you will need to open it to grab the included battery before transferring it to the left handle where the actual electronics are located. The battery is a C2032 flat battery which will apparently last for months. This also is unlike the fancier legacy model, which features a rechargeable battery via USB. That likely needs a lot more charging due to the LED beaming ability.Once the battery is in you’ll just need to insert the rope into the handles. This was very easy after reading the instructions in the manual. All that’s left then is to set up the app, which only takes seconds. You can also set up Apple Health integration to log your workouts and grab your weight and heart rate.Performing the actual workout is easy. You really don’t need the fancy beaming ability of the original model as it’s easy to either set up your iPhone in front of you or occasionally check your Apple Watch for your skip count and time. There’s also a sound feature to notify you at skip intervals of your choosing. (I assume this works just as well on Android devices). One annoying feature is that the count will reset after about ten seconds of inactivity and also then send data as a workout to Apple Health (or presumably the Android equivalent). Thus you could end up with a dozen “workouts” in a 30 minute session. The app itself will show you the total count when you’re done, but it’s not fun from a data management perspective. Since “skip count” isn’t an Apple Health value anyway, I figure I can just use my Apple Watch to log the workout and use skip count within the Smart Rope app for reference separately. That way I will get my workout as one chunk and will still have heart rate and calorie data. At the end of your workout you can create some nice data images to share on social media and such. This will use your total.Other than standard skip tracking the app also has a few additional features. Workout-wise there’s an interval tracker which will let you pick from intervals with rest at various skill levels. The interval program does not have the annoying 10-second workout end time, so this is more enjoyable to use if you’re going to use Apple Heath or the Android equivalent. Additionally there’s a competition mode so you can compete against friends in the somewhat unlikely event you have one with the rope as well. For data there’s a simple global leaderboard to compare yourself against other users as well as a personal log with some basic graphs. At a sub-$40 price tag and with no more bulkiness than a standard rope, this is a good edition to your home fitness equipment with the added benefit of some fun data to keep you motivated. It also appears to be the perfect gift for anyone who enjoys fitness.

FOR EASY WORKOUTS GET THIS
I’ve had this product for a while and every time I use it, it is GREAT! The app you download to count your jumps is flawless I love this product. I highly recommend. Especially if you’re trying to ease into working out like me. With this product you go at your own pace and have to do none of the hard work (counting jumps or timing how long you have been jumping for)

Like this equipment
This piece of equipment is fun and easy to use.Connection with the phone and its app is real easy…well there is not really anything to do beside turning it on.The app needs a lot of improvements but I am sure they will come eventually; the worse point to me is that it only works online therefore if the phone is not connected to internet, it only do the basic count and does not record anything anyway. The rope is good but it is quite light and it would be nice to have heavier replacement available. It comes with a very useful bag.

Good value. App is a bit buggy.
The product itself was exactly as described in the description. No complaints with the quality and performance of the jump rope. The jump rope integrates with Apple Health great. The downside is the app for the jump rope is a bit buggy and very elementary. By default it wanted to set up in Chinese.

Easy to Setup and Use – Want a Heavier Rope Though
Setup: Super easy. I saw a couple other reviews about not including batteries…..it’s in a separate storage portion of the handle which is not easily noticeable so please read the setup instructions! Hardest part was threading the rope LOLUse: When the app is open it really does just start counting when you start jumping. In the basic count mode it will stop when you’re not jumping for a bit (my guess is roughly 15 to 20 seconds?)The rope it comes with is pretty light and not as smooth as in the picture. I’m going to buy a separate heavier rope to get a better workout and so it actually swings better and cleaner.

No batteries included
The product did not come with batteries, even though it says on the package batteries included. And they are the circle batteries which are not the easiest to find in stores. Can’t use it until I get them which is annoying.

Very happy, good product at very good price
I didnt jump rope before this (except maybe as a kid). Ive only used the product 2 days now but I am very happy with it. The device and the iphone app works well. In fact, the app is much better than most low cost, low volume electronics. The only thing missing in the software is some way to export to Garmin, TrainingPeaks, etc.The rope (I think it is PVC) is good quality but I need to de-kink it (I read you can boil it then lay it out).

Too light, tangles and the app isn’t good either
I do not recommend this at all. First I tried using it with the app and it counts twice for every one jump and glitches…. then I tried to use it just as a rope and it’s way too light so it tangles. I thought I just didn’t know how to jump rope properly, but all my friends have tried it and the consensus is — IT SUCKS!
